Benefits Communication: Why Spanish Matters

Ever feel like health insurance is a foreign language? The vocabulary, technical jargon, and acronyms are confusing enough on their own. Imagine trying to comprehend these elements in another language!

Think about what it must be like for non-native English speakers to try and understand their benefits.

Spanish is a growing language in the United States and around the world. Here at Echelon Group, we are adapting to this shift. The use of Spanish language has steadily increased in the United States over the years. In fact, according to Professor Fernández, of University of Alcalá, there were about 40 million Spanish speakers in the United States in 2018. While Texas and California have the largest Hispanic population, Idaho’s Hispanic population is at 12%! The world is changing, and we’re changing with it.

The #1 Benefits Challenge is Employee Communication

When employees don’t understand their benefits or don’t know how to navigate them, the challenge results in more ER visits, decreased productivity, and unused benefits, all of which result in wasted benefit dollars. For Echelon Group, focusing on employee communication is one of the key ways in which we help our employer clients achieve greater return on their benefit insurance investments. As the employee landscape in our Pacific Northwest region changes, we have long since recognized the importance of including Spanish in our employee communication strategies.

Offering Spanish Services Since 2006

Joe Chertudi and Melissa Hassler are ready to communicate via phone, email, or in person whether it’s your family, employees, or even yourself that is a native Spanish speaker. While there is never a charge for an employee to call Echelon Group and speak to someone in Spanish, we do offer additional Spanish Services, like Benefit Booklet Translation, for a small fee. What is your employee Spanish speaker population? Are you offering Spanish benefits assistance?
